CriminOlly Concludes His GarbAugust With NYMPHOS!

CriminOlly has titled his latest round of book reviews, "One of these is the worst book I've read for ages..." So let's get this out of the way first: our Men's Adventure Library release of Walter Kaylin's He-Men, Bag Men, & Nymphos collection, which is reviewed in his current video, is NOT that book! Au contraire. Per Olly:

"As always, they (The Men's Adventure Library) did a fantastic job with it. This is a beautifully presented book."

Whew! And he doesn't stop there. In fact, he hits on something in Kaylin's work that I have long felt makes our Men's Adventure Library books so special: 

"Walter Kaylin is almost certainly an author you haven't heard of...he was an incredibly prolific writer of short stories for men's adventure magazines...he wrote hundreds of stories, and in this one you get a really nice selection of different styles. You get war stories, you get gangster stories, there's a Western, a couple of fake "true" stories... All really entertaining short stories of a kind that you just don't see anymore... They feel quite different from modern short stories which tend to be either a bit literary or twist-in-the-tale horror." 

Olly couldn't be more on target. What Walter Kaylin had, they're not making anymore. We are proud to play a part in preserving his work, and making it available to new readers.

ONCE A VAMPIRE: Labor Day Update

Happy Labor Day! Wyatt here, with a proof-of-life post to thank everyone for their contributions so far to John Amplas' book project (in collaboration with me and Jimmy Angelina), Once a Vampire. Your support of John's book means everything to us. 

Got to spend some time with John on a recent trip to Pittsburgh. While there I conducted further interviews with him, as well as documenting a joint conversation between John and actor/broadcaster John Hall, one of his dearest friends going back to their time together in the Pittsburgh theatre scene. Listening to them recount stories and shared history, it seemed anything John (A.) may have forgotten, John (H.) remembers, and is ready to remind him! What a pleasure to be in the company of two lifelong pals who have been through so much together across the decades. I can only hope the book does their friendship justice. 

Meanwhile John (Amplas!) has been putting me in touch with other friends and colleagues who have contributed to his story and played a role in his life, and I expect to be conducting more interviews soon. While the book is very much John's story in John's voice, our plan for chapters that deal specifically with his film and theatre projects is to present them in an oral history format, with John's voice joined by the voices of his collaborators to deliver a fuller, more rounded perspective. We're all very excited about it.
