Dead Cat Bounce - September 9!

from Dead Cat Bounce HQ:

Hey there friends - Moby's got a new band with a mad name, a first gig, an insanely good drummer, a prodigal violin fiddler, an excellent bass player, and all of this happened before the end of the world came upon us! I hope you can join us - it's going to be an evening of funk, blues and mind-bending musicians using their mental powers to levitate large objects like improbable groups of Swiss Boarding School Girls! Double Decker Busses! A small Welsh Shepherd! We will bend spoons and play in tune and commune with the almost dead! Nothing is beyond us!

On Drums - Sam Kelly - One of the biggest names on the UK blues and funk scene, winner of the 'best blues drummer of the year' five years running, Sam practically invented the UK groove, playing with proto-funk band Cymande. Since then he has played with everyone from Chaka Khan to Gary Moore and a thousand big names in between.

On Violin - Jan Galach - an amazing blues prodigy from Poland, walked in one night and turned the world upside down.

On Bass - Alex Deligiannidis - a great session player from Greece to London's west side, he burns it up on George Marios' new album and around town with Anosis and Monks Scar Tattoo.

On Guitar and Vox - Moby Pomerance is an unquestionably adjectival guitar player. In fact just the other day one of his oldest friends said he "wasn't rubbish." So. There you go.

New work by Moby Pomerance!

"He knows four words of English and his name is one of them. He’s pale and skinny with long hair and a more than a little devilish goatee. Even more sinister, he brings a violin. To a blues jam. That’s bringing a rock to a gun fight."

The Gitter Cranicals 7: When the Devil comes, show him the skinny kid from Silesia.

New work by Moby Pomerance

"He's had a rough time of it recently. A bi-polar friend of his had drunk himself to death. Work had been tough. His wife (number 2) was recovering from an operation. We'd been sitting there for over an hour before he mentioned his sister had died two weeks before."

Raine.

New work by Moby Pomerance!

"He was racing over pentatonic scales picking out every note with a level of technique I had never heard in him before – and I never heard in him afterwards. He was using grace notes and passing-tones, furious chromatic runs - I couldn’t keep up, and I was standing right underneath him. I had studied his playing for years – but not this. I had nothing for this. Forget both ends, he was burning his candle with a blow-torch, right in the middle."

New work by Moby Pomerance!

"He steps down from the stage, microphone in hand, grabs a chair and swivels it around, mounting it backwards in a move somewhere between the lead singer of AC/DC and Cher when she’s humping the cannon."

In Part 5 of The Gitter Cranicals, our humble narrator is invited to Keep On Rockin' in the Free World...will he accept?

New work by Moby Pomerance!

"Why would I play the stupid guitar again after all this time? It wasn’t bad enough the first go around? I hear some guys like to get urinated on by hookers. I bet it’s more ennobling than this."

New work by Moby Pomerance!

"12 years since I last played in front of an audience, and it seems I’ve developed something new. Apparently, to a bystander, it’s almost indistinguishable from watching someone have a stroke."

A lovely read

It may seem strange to call an event where the stage lights blew out mid-performance an unqualified success, but the fact is, the theater went black not once but twice during Wednesday's reading of Moby Pomerance's new play, The Good Book, and an unqualified success is exactly what the reading was.

If you missed it, you missed something very special. Sandee Curry thinks so, too.

Congratulations, Moby! And congratulations to the gifted people of the Circle X Theatre Company. Outstanding work.
